11+ & 13+ Tuition

Since I first started teaching in 2011, my main focus has been preparing students for the 11+ and 13+ (Common Entrance) exams held by grammar and private schools.
I teach both English and maths, and over the years I have helped students gain entry to almost every leading competitive school in Greater London (as well as a handful of schools further afield, including Eton, Winchester, Guildford High and Wycombe Abbey).
Every school has its own admissions process, normally entailing a combination of pre-tests, exams and interviews, and over the years I have developed a deep and detailed understanding of exactly what preparation is necessary for each.
While I cannot guarantee results, I am yet to have a student who failed to receive an offer from one of their top choices.
My teaching strategy is tailored to the indiviual needs of each child, and I am happy to adjust the content and pace of work accordingly.
As an English tutor, I focus initially on building up core skills in SPAG (spelling, punctuation and grammar) and vocabulary. These disciplines form vital components of the comprehension, composition and verbal reasoning exams, and act as a platform for developing students' reading, critical analysis and creative writing abilities.

In maths, I encourage a detail-focused, methodical approach. I cover the full KS2 curriculum, before moving on to the more advanced concepts that often feature in the tougher entrance exams. Though English is my specialism, maths is my favourite subject to teach, and I love seeing how swiftly students improve in both confidence and ability through personalised, one-to-one learning.
I expect my students to work hard and complete their homework on time. However, I always endeavour to ensure my lessons are fun and engaging. The 11+ and 13+ 'journeys' are challenging, but my hope is that they can be extremely rewarding and enjoyable too.
